The Tokiloken Foundation

About Us

About Us

The Tokiloken Foundation began with a simple mission: to give every dog the care, dignity, and second chance they deserve. Inspired by Loki—our beloved German Shorthaired Pointer who lives with Addison’s disease, which almost took his life last year—we set out to support dogs with illness, aid no-kill shelters, and empower foster families across the country.

What started as a passion project quickly evolved into a growing movement rooted in advocacy, community support, and innovation. Today, we’re combining purpose with technology to change lives—four paws at a time.

About Us

About The Tokiloken Foundation

Loki isn’t just the heart of this foundation — he’s the reason it exists. A loyal, intelligent German Shorthair Pointer with boundless energy and a gentle spirit, Loki was the perfect companion. But over time, something changed.

It started slowly. He began drinking more, eating less, and gradually losing weight. The weight loss was so subtle it took months to notice. What began as small changes grew into serious concerns — a fading appetite, trembling, instability, and eventually, complete physical weakness. Looking back, there were so many more signs — we just didn’t recognize them. Several routine vet visits soon became emergency trips, but even then, clear answers remained elusive.

In April of 2024, it all came to a head on what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend camping trip — one of Loki’s favorite things in the world. He loves being outdoors, free and full of joy. But that weekend was different. On the very first day, I noticed he couldn’t keep up with me — something that had never happened before. As the hours passed, my worry grew.

Even though he was clearly suffering, Loki never stopped trying to make sure we were having a good weekend. He did everything in his power to hide how much pain he was in. That memory still brings tears to my eyes.

We ended the trip early and carried him nearly a mile back to the car. That night, we stayed by his side — comforting him, lying with him in his bed, holding him through the night until the vet opened the next morning.

Loki was admitted to the hospital and stayed for seven long days. We visited every day. She stayed as long as they would let her. She brought him his favorite blanket. Sometimes a dirty shirt that smelled like home. But always — love, and prayers.

I couldn’t bear to see it. My poor boy — helpless, dying, and no one could stop it. Despite endless testing, there were still no answers. His body was failing, and no one knew why.

Then, just before a procedure triggered by a misinterpreted result, Loki’s condition took a sharp turn for the worse — and he died on the table.

But his story didn’t end there.

The incredible team at Monticello Veterinary Clinic refused to give up. Through quick thinking, skill, and heart, they brought him back to life. And finally, we got a name for what had almost taken him: Addison’s disease — a rare and often overlooked autoimmune disorder that is frequently misdiagnosed until it’s too late.

With the right treatment, Loki made a full recovery. Today, he’s alive, strong, and doing what he loves most — being outside, chasing birds, and loving his people. He’s a living reminder of what’s possible when compassion meets care.

Why This Matters:

Loki was lucky. Most dogs with Addison’s aren’t diagnosed in time. Many families can’t afford the extensive testing or lifelong medication. Without awareness and support, too many pets never get the chance Loki had.

That’s why we founded the Tokiloken Foundation — to raise awareness, support families in need, and give other dogs a fighting chance. Loki’s survival wasn’t a miracle. It was the result of love, persistence, and people who refused to give up.

Loki is alive. His fight lit a fire. His life fuels our mission.
